I have to make a response to there post and cover everything in the attachment.
CLASSMATE 1
I chose the question, “How does social media influence the views and decision-making of individuals?” because I have personally witnessed how powerful and persuasive these platforms can be in shaping people’s opinions and actions. As someone who has worked in the medical field for over 20 years, I’ve seen patients make serious health decisions based on misinformation they encountered online rather than facts provided by professionals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, I had friends and family members reject medical advice due to viral social media posts, even when those posts lacked any scientific basis. This experience sparked my interest in understanding how social media influences thought processes, especially in areas like health, politics, and social justice. I find it fascinating—and concerning—how quickly opinions can shift based on what’s trending. This topic is important to me because I want to better understand how digital environments affect critical thinking and personal judgment.
Hypothesis:
Frequent exposure to social media content increases the likelihood that individuals will adopt popular online opinions, even when those opinions conflict with factual information or their prior beliefs.
CLASSMATE 2
Have you ever done something out of pure emotion. Or done something without thinking about any consequences. That’s called impulsive decision making, a lot of people struggle with impulsive decision making. The common person tends to act without thinking or do something out of pure emotion often leading to consequences for the action. Considering most of the common people have made impulsive decisions it’s very difficult to experiment the why what or how the process happens. If I were to run an experiment to study the questions of impulsive decision making. I would question the various circumstances. Impulsive decision making coordination with consequences are connected by the outlying circumstances of the situation. With this hypothesis I would do a survey, specifically a simple random sampling survey to get a large variety of a population. In the survey I would ask what the circumstances where of the situation where the individual made an impulsive decision then ask if they received consequences for there actions. If so the severity of the consequences.
Discussion Guidelines and Grading
Discussion Guidelines
All discussion posts are expected to be substantive responses which incorporate:
· Information from the text and online materials
· Appropriate terminology and theories to support your responses
· Thoughtful responses with additional supporting evidence or examples
· Proper spelling and grammar so your response is readable (and gradable)
Response Example:
I'm mostly surprised at how poorly executed this experiment was. The fact that the prisoners/guards knew what the experiment was about, that even Zimbardo himself was "supervisor," and the lack of controlled data throughout the whole ordeal makes for unreliable results. Also, there wasn't a broad enough selection of people. From the video, it only appeared to be Caucasian males in the study. These are just a few things I noticed that really just don't follow a scientific approach.
I believe that if you allow certain (i.e., BAD) people to take control regardless of the situation or circumstance, they will abuse their power and will continue to do so if no one calls them out on it. I do not believe that any individual (especially one with morals) would just take on the role of being unethical or evil if they weren't already drawn to that type of attitude or behavior. To me, this was clearly demonstrated when Zimbardo states there were a few guards who didn't participate in shaming/harassing the prisoners even though a few other guards took it upon themselves to become very harsh and abusive (e.g., "John Wayne").
Response to Classmates
You are expected to post one initial response to the questions and at least TWO responses to classmates.
All discussion posts are expected to follow basic Netiquette guidelines and be respectful to your classmate's viewpoints.
It's important to add something new to the discussion when you respond to classmates. For example, you could add new ideas or information through:
· Examples
· Websites
· Personal stories
· Images
· Magazine article
· Additional information resources
Special Note: Remember to provide a citation source if you reference web-based or printed materials.
Response to a Classmate Example:
Great points. Formula is very expensive and should not be the only option because breastfeeding mothers are not getting the support and respect they deserve. I remember a co-worker being stressed because she had trouble finding a private spot in the office where she could pump. I would think any company would promote breastfeeding, considering the cost of health insurance and all the health benefits. Healthy babies mean fewer insurance claims and less time a mother may need to miss work.
Special Note: A bad example of a response to a classmate is a simple sentence such as " I agree with you. Good idea!" This type of response will not count as a response post and will receive no credit (a zero grade).
Grading
A rubric is attached to each discussion for grading based on:
· Demonstrates careful reading and inquiry
· Responses to classmates
· Quality of writing
